Did you know that LinkedIn can help you find a business mentor?

We’ve already talked about how having a mentor can help you and your business succeed. One great way to find a mentor is on LinkedIn.

Why Should You Use LinkedIn to Find a Mentor? LinkedIn gets a bad rap of simply being Instagram’s boring older brother or sister. Just like any other social media platform (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.), LinkedIn is what you make of it. The kind of people you connect with on LinkedIn shapes what you see and get from that platform.

Can your business afford to ignore 500 people? Maybe.  How about ignoring 500 million people? Nope.

LinkedIn has more than 500 million users. This makes the site an important place to be, especially if your business serves adults and/or other businesses.

Using “Career Advice” to Find a Mentor on LinkedIn

Update: LinkedIn discontinued its Career Advice feature during late 2020. The good news is that there are still ways to find a mentor on LinkedIn.

  1. Use hashtags in LinkedIn’s search box. The social platform’s support team suggests using hashtags such as #OfferHelp, #Careeradvice, or #Mentorship.
  2. Join mentorship groups on LinkedIn. You can find these groups by using the previously mentioned hashtags, or by doing searches in LinkedIn using other relevant words such as “community” or “advice.”

Do you already have someone in mind as a potential mentor? See if the person is on LinkedIn. If so, send a connection request to the person. It’s also a good idea to include a note in your invitation.

Final Thoughts

LinkedIn may not be as pretty and shiny as Instagram and other sites. But if you’re looking for business leaders and potential customers who can help your business grow, LinkedIn gets the job done.

Think about using the “career advice” section to find a mentor on LinkedIn and connect with other business entrepreneurs and leaders.
